Regions Hospital Genetec Upgrade

HealthPartners is undergoing a company-wide security upgrade to a new system called Genetec that is being installed at every hospital and clinic in their network.
This project requires replacing all of the access control in the Regions Hospital and seven other clinics from Sielox to Genetec, upgrading about 700 cameras to Genetec compatible models, and adding card access to each of the parking ramps for security to have complete control.

WORKING QUICKLY

Managing the camera upgrades in the mental health building proved to be quite a feat. We upgraded cameras floor-by-floor, ensuring that each level was fully equipped by day’s end to provide live surveillance for the managers throughout the night. This endeavor demanded heightened security measures and extensive overtime hours to ensure everything was seamlessly operational by the end of the day.

MINIMIZING DISRUPTIONS

While upgrading the access control system, we had to keep both systems live so that access to a particular door is never down. This means swapping the door live from the old panel to the new Genetec panel and testing it, all within a few minutes so that there are no disruptions or security breaches.

NAVIGATING OLD PIPES

Installation of the Genetec system requires pulling new cabling from each ramp all the way to a closet within the hospital, which in some cases means 500+ feet of underground cabling through decade-old pipes.

THE STATS

  • 745 card readers across 194 headend panels at the hospital.
  • 19 card readers across 14 headend panels in the seven off-site clinics.
  • 704 camera replacements at the hospital.
  • 26 camera replacements between 7 off-site clinics.
  •  22 card readers and 18 intercoms across the East, West, South, Robert, Birth Center, and flat lot garages.
